We’re hiring a Principal Engineer 2 on our Unix Engineering team. In this role, you will implement and support reliable, available, scalable, and secure Unix and Linux based platforms. You will partner closely with software engineers, business analysts, product owners, architects, and business stakeholders to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, scalable, and reliable solution that supports business processes across Publix.

We are looking for a senior-level system engineer who can lead efforts across multiple workstreams, establish automation standards, mentor other engineering resources, influence project direction, and provide clear communication on risks, progress, and release readiness.

Location: Hybrid (Lakeland, FL): To support our hybrid work model, candidates must reside, or be willing to relocate, within a commutable distance of Lakeland, FL.

 Your Impact:

• Primarily responsible for IBM Power servers and related products (implement configuration changes, perform upgrades and administrative tasks, and troubleshoot problems)
• Provide comprehensive ownership of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) including deployment, maintenance, upgrades, support, and operational management
• Research, assess, and remediate security vulnerabilities
• Assist with overall platform performance monitoring and tuning
• Assist application teams with problem resolution
• Participate in team-wide after-hours/weekend on-call support rotation

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or other analytical disciplines or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of experience implementing and supporting SLES in a DM-MPIO infrastructure
• Experience performing SLES upgrades
• Experience supporting and maintaining IBM Power server hardware
• Experience supporting and administering IBM PowerVM
• Experience supporting, maintaining, and administering High Availability clustering with Pacemaker
• Experience with SUSE Manager (SUMA/MLM) 5.x
• Experience performing security patch management and validation
• Experience with Podman
• Experience with shell scripting

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting SLES within a SAP HANA environment
• Experience with managing certificates
• Experience with Storix backup and recovery software
• Experience with Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) on Oracle engineered systems and appliances
• Experience with Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS)
• Experience with Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Sever (TEMS)
• Experience with Safeguard Authentication Services
• Experience with Safeguard for Sudo
• Experience with Universal Automation Center
• Experience with the ServiceNow ITSM platform
• Experience with platform-related dependencies such as SAN disk connectivity, core networking concepts, and integration with Active Directory
• Experience reviewing operating system hardening guidelines and maintaining an auditable operating system baseline configuration standard
• Experience working with vulnerability management tools, supporting compliance audits, following change management processes, and preparing for and performing disaster recovery exercises
